Eyelid lift – blepharoplasty

What it is
It is an operation to remove excess skin from around the eyes. This reduces the bags under your eyes and the sags from your eyelids.

What it involves
The surgery last for about two hours and consists of several cuts made in the natural lines around your eyes. It is performed under general anaesthetic and you’ll need to stay in hospital for one or two nights afterwards. As well as possible complications from the procedure itself - such as excessive bleeding or infection, this also carries the risks associated with all major surgical procedures.

Questions to ask
How long before I see the results?
Initially it will look fairly horrific because of swelling and bruising, but you will gradually see the improvement as these fade. Scars will be obvious and pink, but will fade to become virtually invisible over the next few months.

Will it affect my vision?
Yes, but only at first. Your eyes will be watery and your vision blurred for a few days after the op.  This will settle down fairly quickly.

When can I get back to work?
Usually within a couple of weeks.

Things to look out for
You might find it difficult to close your eyes completely following surgery – occasionally this is permanent.

Surgeons suggest you keep your head elevated for a few days after the operation, i.e. sleep sitting up.

Contact lenses should be left out for about a week afterwards.

Does it hurt?
Post operative pain is minimal, and swelling/bruising tends to heal quickly.

Expect to pay

£2000 - £4400
