First steps in surgery

Safety First
I am considering having some facial cosmetic surgery. My friends tell me all sorts of horror stories about things that could potentially go wrong – and of course show me lots of scary pictures from the women’s weeklies. Is cosmetic surgery safe?

While no surgery can reasonably claim to be “risk free”, the chances of anything going wrong are very low. All the procedures used by clinics are tried and tested before being approved. Anyone unsure of what is involved in the treatment they are considering should go to the website of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons website www.baaps.org. There is a wealth of information on the site and some links to practitioners and medical bodies for advice and information. Have a look and see if you can get the information you need to get you started.
