Your guide to invasive surgery

R is for Recovery
Make sure you know how long it will take to recover from the procedure that you are considering having done. BAAPS says: “You need to understand the nature of the downtime required and after-care options.”

Rajiv Grover says that invasive surgery is “not just a beauty treatment” but takes time to recover from, and he is keen to dismiss the idea of so-called ‘lunchtime procedures.’ He says: “It is giving people the idea that there is no recovery time. I don’t know of anything that you can go in and out and do safely in a lunchtime – except eat a sandwich.

“Thinking about recovery emphasizes to people that this is surgery, and you are going to be off for two to three weeks.”

Cosmetic surgeon Jan Stanek, who practices in Wimpole Street, London and is the resident expert on Channel Four’s Ten Years Younger agrees that clients need to factor in plenty of time to recover. Stanek, a specialist in facial surgery, says: “If you have facial surgery it is unlikely you will be presentable before a week or 10 days since most people do get swelling and bruising.”
