Lipodissolve vs mesotherapy
3rd April 2008

The term "mesotherapy" and "lipodissolve" are often used interchangeably; however, they are not one and the same.

Mesotherapy is a technique used to inject substances (including medication, enzymes, vitamins, steroids, antibiotics, hormones, etc.) into the mesoderm (the middle layer of the skin) for a variety of purposes. French proponents of mesotherapy claim it can be used to treat a variety of ailments ranging from vascular diseases and migraines to joint pain and anxiety.

Lipdissolve is the cocktail of phosphatidylcholine (derived from soybeans) and sodium deoxycholate (a bile salt that aids in waste removal) that is injected into the subcutaneous tissue (the layer underneath the skin) using mesotherapy-like techniques to purportedly "melt" or "dissolve" localized fat deposits, as well as to address cellulite and stretch marks. While there's no research that shows exactly how lipodissolve works, it is believed that the injections trigger an inflammatory response that results in the breakdown and excretion of fat.
