Record numbers of Americans underwent cosmetic surgery in 2007, according to a new report.
The statistics, from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery,show that 11.7 million surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures were done in the U.S. in 2007, up 2% from 2006.
In 2007, as in previous years, most cosmetic procedure patients -- 91% -- were women. Although men made up a small percentage of cosmetic procedure patients, they underwent 17% more procedures in 2007 than in 2006, while the number of procedures for women only rose by 1%.
Typical patients were 35-50 years old, followed by people aged 51-64.
