Anyone considering surgery in Eastern Europe should ensure that they check the credentials of the surgery they are using carefully.
The Daily Mail today interviews 34 year old Adele Taylor, a bar manager from Oldham, who is taking legal action against a clinic in Prague she claims caused a massive infection in her breast after surgery. She then had to have further surgery at local NHS hospitals to correct the problem.
Miss Taylor went to Prague because the operation cost just £2,600 compared with £7,500 to have it in the UK. But she has now lost all feeling in her breasts as a result of the surgery and warns other women to think twice before going abroad for cheap treatment.
She said: 'I have lost all my self confidence. I no longer want to go out anywhere which makes my job extremely difficult as a bar manager. I feel I will never let a partner see my breasts and my chances of having a relationship have been destroyed.
'I wanted so badly to boost my self-confidence by having the breast augmentation but now my life is ruined forever.'
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) warns patients considering plastic surgery holiday packages to investigate the credentials of the clinic and surgeons involved.
BAAPS president Douglas McGeorge said 'I'm amazed people go for these cheap deals which too often provide inadequate counselling for the patient and little or not follow-up care or advice.'
